Our cottage is the one on the right.We spent 3 nights at the Edge Self Catering Cottages in the magical town of Hogsback. Located 1300m up in the Amathole Mountains, this area was an inspiration for JRR Tolkien, who spent childhood holidays hiking the steep slopes. Mar 14, 2008

The view from the top of Compassberg proved to be worth the effort.From the 4x4 car park it only took John 1 1/2 hours. Char found it far too steep and did not make it very far. Mar 14, 2008
The end of the road for our rental car, from here we must walk.This adds about 2 hours to our hike. True 4x4's can continue another few km before the climb begins.Mar 14, 2008
